Approximately 100 teachers on two different dates this summer came to Lecompton to learn about “Bleeding Kansas” history.  The teachers came from all over the United States–from as far as California and Maine–as part of a summer teacher workshop offered at the University of Missouri in Kansas City.  The workshop, “Crossroads of Conflict,” is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.  Teachers k-12 visit different historic sites related to the Kansas-Missouri border war, including Lecompton, Kansas.

They visited Constitution Hall and the Territorial Capital Museum, viewed a “Bleeding Kansas” play by the Lecompton Reenactors, ate a home-cooked meal at the Lecompton United Methodist Church, had a short piano recital on an 1885 Chickering Grand Piano, and shopped at the gift stores and eateries of Lecompton.
